While you are in Burr Ridge staying at the SpringHill Suites you must go to Eddie Merlot’s. They are known for an outstanding dining experience and a fabulous steak. From the SpringHill Suites head toward W 75th St on S Frontage Rd for 0.1 mi. Continue on Burr Ridge Pky 0.2 mi and turn left onto Bridewell Dr. Eddie Merlot’s is on Bridewell Dr, on the left.

Quality, exceptional service and an unparalleled atmosphere have made Eddie Merlot’s one of America’s great steak houses. But who is Eddie Merlot? Bill Humphries, founder of Eddie Merlot’s, is a well-known wine connoisseur. In fact, Bill’s talent for choosing appropriate dinner wine was one of his responsibilities as a board member for a worldwide corporation. At one such dinner, Ed, a new member, asked Bill to surprise him with a great wine. When the wine—a Merlot—was served, Ed was exceedingly impressed, and told Bill, “From now on, always order the Merlot.” “And from now on,” Bill replied, “you’re Eddie Merlot.” To this day, that’s what Ed’s fellow board members call him. Eddie Merlot’s is an homage to the man and his love of a great steak, a great glass of wine and a good story. We welcome you to Eddie Merlot’s in the same spirit. We want you, our guest, to have nothing but the best—which is why we go to such lengths to serve you the exceptional prime aged steaks upon which our restaurant has built its reputation.

Burr Ridge is a suburb of Chicago with a population of 11,560 as off the 2008 census. Burr Ridge was mainly carved by glaciers at the end of the last ice age. In 1917 the International Harvester Company purchased 414 acres for an experimental farm, where it tested the world’s first all-purpose tractor, the Farmall. Also in 1917, the Cook County Prison Farm (also known as the Bridewell Farm) began operation in what is now Burr Ridge. In 1969 the prison farm site became the Ambriance subdivision, which is a gated community that has multimillion dollar homes within its premises.

Burr Ridge consists of 3,541 households, of which 2,914 familes live in the village. Of these housholds37.2% have children under the age of 18 living in the home, 76.4% are married couples living together, and 17.7% are non families. The median age is 44 Years old. The median income for a household in the village was $129,507, and the median income for a family was $186,480. Males had a median income of $99,060 versus $47,824 for females. The per capita income for the village was $58,518. About 2.5% of families and 2.8% of the population were below the poverty line, including 2.7% of those under age 18 and 5.5% of those age 65 or over.

Religious affiliations include: Trinity Lutheran Church, a congregation of the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod, organized on December 31, 1865. The church supports an elementary school with an enrollment of 137 students (as of 2007), founded in 1883, and is National Lutheran Schools Accredited (NLSA). St. Mark Coptic Orthodox Church, a congregation of the Coptic Orthodox Church of Alexandria (Egypt), was built in 1981 and was completed in 1983. The church conducts liturgies every Sunday and supports a Montessori pre-school. St. Helena’s Episcopal Church, of the Episcopal Diocese of Chicago was founded in the mid-1950′s. The church supports multiple food ministries including a 24/7 food donation drop box and a partnership with Vacant 2 Vegetables, which provides fresh produce to area food banks with vegetables grown on the church’s 5-acre site.

The Hinsdale Public Library offers so much more then your typical “check out a book” library from yesteryear. They have special programs such as Astronomy, Film Society, and speaker series. You can even check out books online through the ebooks website. From the Springhill Suites in Burr Ridge start out going north on N Frontage Rd toward Veterans Blvd, turn right onto Vetrans Blvd, take the 1st left onto S County rd, turn left onto E 55th St, ake the 1st right onto S Garfield st, turn left onto E Maple St, Hinsdale Public Library is on the left.

The Hinsdale Public Library and its predecessor, the Hinsdale Library Association, have been providing service to Hinsdale residents since 1886. The Hinsdale Library Association was incorporated in 1886 and had 150 paying members and 150 volumes. During the library association’s lifetime (1886-1893) it was housed in various commercial buildings and moved three times. The tax-supported Hinsdale Public Library was created in 1893. Absorbing the collection, assets, and staff of the Library Association, the Public Library opened in August 1893. The Public Library continued the nomadic experience of the Library Association, sharing space with various businesses and relocating six times between 1893 and 1929. The completion of the Memorial Building in 1929 gave the Hinsdale Public Library its first permanent home. Through the next few decades, the library continued its vital and vigorous growth, causing it to outgrow its space. D.K. Pearson, one of the directors of the Library Association, donated his home and a portion of his estate to the library, which funded the 1957 addition to the library. (Dugan, 142) The former Pearson Addition is now home to the Village of Hinsdale offices. The library again found itself in tight quarters and in need of expansion. In the 1988 another addition, on the west side of the Memorial Building, was constructed and the library and the village swapped office spaces in the Memorial Building. Overall, in its 120-year history the library (Hinsdale Library Association and the Hinsdale Public Library) has moved 11 times, suvived fires, and built two additions.

Look back 150 years in history at the Graue Mill and Museum. This area was the first working waterwheel in the Burr ridge area. They feature the mill as well as the Graue house that you can rent to accommodate guests for parties or a special event. There are many areas to explore including a grinding area, a hands on area, weaving and Victorian Parlor. From the Springhill Suites in Burr Ridge start out going north on N Frontage Rd toward Veterans Blvd, turn right onto Vetrans Blvd, take the 1st left onto S County rd, merge onto I-55 N toward Chicago, take exit 277A toward I-294N-Wisconsin, Merge onto I-294 N via the exit on the left toward Tri-State/Wisconsin, merge onto US-34W/ Ogden Ave, turn right onto N York Rd.

Graue Mill and Museum, an operating waterwheel grist mill and homestead, is dedicated to maintaining a bridge between past and present generations in the belief that understanding our history is vital to our future. The Museum provides programs — for school children and others — that include milling, spinning and weaving and living history presentations, as well as artifacts which illustrate the way of life of area residents between 1850 and 1890 and the impact mills such as Graue Mill had on our culture. The mill was a major center of economic life during the 19th century and was also used by Fred Graue to hide runaway slaves on their journey to freedom in Canada. President Abraham Lincoln reportedly visited Graue Mill during a trip from Chicago to Springfield. Three generations of the Graue family operated the mill for 60 years until modern milling methods rendered the old mill obsolete and the building was abandoned. Graue Mill was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in May 1975. And in 1981 was recognized as an Illinois Historic Mechanical Engineering Landmark by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers — the only gristmill so designated on a national or local level, representative of an important technology and era in the history of America.

When traveling to the Burr Ridge Illinois area, the Midway Airport provides travelers with a choice of commercial airlines. The airlines that provide service to the Midway Airport include Air Tran, Branson Air Express, Delta, Frontier, Porter, Northwest Airlines, Southwest, and Volaris. From the Springhill suites start out going north on N Frontage rd toward Veterans Blvd, turn right onto Veterans Blvd, merge onto I-55 N toward Chicago, take the IL-50/Cicero Ave exit toward Chicago Midway Airport, turn right onto IL-50 S/ S Cicero Ave, Midway Airport is on the left.

Midway Airport originally opened in 1927 as Chicago’s Municipal Airport. After the 1942 Battle of Midway, the airport continued to play a role in World War II. It was used by the U.S. Military because of its runway capabilities and mid-continent position. Midway Airport was often the stopping point for crewmen and aircraft as they traveled from the east to west coast. In 1949, the City of Chicago officially renamed the airport in honor of the Battle of Midway. The new Midway Airport Terminal building opened in March and is home to other works of art including a suspended sculpture of a bird in flight. The sculpture, designed by Ralph Helmick, is composed of 2,500 small cast metal sculptures of various aircraft and is located at the Ticketing Lobby. On the south end of the Ticketing Level, a large mural of glass panels by Karl Wirsum celebrates a child’s fascination with flight. On the Lower Level, near baggage claim, photographs by Dawoud Bey, Kathleen Eaton and Bob Thall honor Chicago’s ethnic diversity by depicting families from various Chicago communities. These works of art are made possible by The Chicago Public Art Program, which requires that 1.33% of City of Chicago construction budgets be dedicated to artwork for the premises.

When traveling to the Burr Ridge Illinois area, the Chicago O’Hare International Airport provides travelers with a choice of commercial and international airlines. The airlines that provide service to the Chicago O’Hare include United, SWISS, jet Blue, Delta, continental, Japan Airlines, America Airlines, and many more. From the Springhill suites start out going north on N Frontage rd toward Veterans Blvd, turn right onto Veterans Blvd, merge onto I-55 N toward Chicago, take exit 277A toward I-294 N/ Wisconsin, merge onto I-294 N via the exit on the left toward Tri-State/ Wisconsin, merge onto I-190 W toward O’Hare, take the Bessie Coleman Dr Exit toward International Teminal 5/ Economy Parking/Rental Car Return, turn left onto Bessie Coleman Dr.

In 1945, a Site Selection Committee appointed by Mayor Edward Kelly chose Orchard Field, the location of a Douglas aircraft assembly plant located on the northwest side of Chicago, as the site for a new Chicago airport. The site had four concrete runways. In 1949 the Chicago City Council renamed Orchard Field as Chicago-O’Hare International Airport to honor naval aviator Lt. Cmdr. Edward H. “Butch” O’Hare, a Medal of Honor recipient from Chicago who died in World War II. By the end of 1961, flight operations increased to 86,495 departures and arrivals. Also in 1961, the main terminal building and a 5,000-car parking lot were completed. O’Hare’s 37.6 million passengers in 1973 exceeded that of the second busiest airport in the world by 12 million! Chicago remains committed to noise reduction and works closely with 36 communities surrounding O’Hare and Midway Airports, providing millions of dollars in residential and school soundproofing. O’Hare’s focus on customer service is enhanced by multi-lingual information representatives stationed throughout the airport. O’Hare offers travelers a taste of Chicago through its concessions program. Favorite local establishments and nationally recognized chains make up the airport’s wide variety of food, beverage and retail offerings.
